Text Box: This party is a parish fellowship event for the whole community.  Food, music and games provide something for everyone. This occasion offers many opportunities to volunteer or to donate to the food and game booths. There is an opportunity for creative people to develop “Theme Baskets” to be sold at Silent Auction on the day of the festival.  A large-prize raffle drawing  is held during the party. Text Box: Fall Rummage Sale Committee
Text Box: Every fall the St. Mary’s Rummage Sale Committee has a charitable sale. Proceeds go to the St. Mary’s Benevolent Fund or the Food Shelf. Items not sold at the sale are sent to the Dakota Boys Ranch. Contact Maxine Prchal at 283-5633 or Janice Olson at 763-7509.

Text Box: Homebound and Hospital Ministry
Text Box: There are opportunities for volunteers to assist the homebound of the parish when they need help with light housekeeping, shopping and running errands. New Moms have needs that volunteers can meet as well. Other programs are currently in the planning process. Contact Kathy Fischer, Parish Nurse at  762-2320.
Text Box: Funeral Lunch Committee
Text Box: Each of the ten geographic districts at St. Mary’s Parish help serve and provide cookies/bars at the funeral lunch. Kitchen help, servers and volunteer bakers are needed for each funeral. One or two volunteers from each district coordinate the funerals. Contact Lucrezia Campbell at 834-2086 or Deb Hovel at 763-4944.

Text Box: Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian organization dedicated to eliminating substandard housing and homelessness worldwide and specifically here in Alexandria. The volunteer group from St. Mary's meets on Fridays where the new house is being built.  All who desire to be a part of this work are welcome. Contact Gordon Vanderhelm at 763-6463.

Text Box: This is a non-profit, member-driven fraternal benefit organization whose mission is to promote volunteerism and charity, provide financial products, and support the Church in extending the faith especially through Catholic school and religious education. Local council programs provide funding for St. Mary’s School. Contact: Luke Bauman at 763-4835.
Text Box: Prayer Shawl Ministry
Text Box: Those who like to knit are invited to work independently at home, creating shawls for parish members who are in of comfort. While knitting,  members pray the parish member who will be receiving the shawl. When the shawl is completed, Father Al blesses them before they are delivered to the recipient. Text Box: Membership is open to all practicing Catholic men age 18 and over. The principles of the Order are charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism. The Knights are involved in many ways that promote the Gospel and enable them to become a spiritual force for the renewal of the Church in holiness, unity and truth.

The Knights spread charity and unity among people by their sale of Tootsie Rolls to raise funds for  special needs children. They volunteer for Special Olympics.  They contribute heavily to all pro-life programs, local needs when tragedies strike, scholarships, specific urgent needs of the parish and school or wherever their help is needed.

Text Box: Care Team provides household chore, maintenance, and transportation services to seniors (persons 55+) in Douglas County.  The goal of the program is to help people continue living safely in their home.  To volunteer or receive services, call Kathy at 763-5781.
Text Box: This group provides support, education and outreach to grieving parents following the death of a child of any age.  Meetings are held the fourth Monday of the month in the medical conference room at the Alex Clinic from 6:30-8:30 p.m.  For more information all Kathy at 763-5781.
